BRANTFORD – For the rest of the year Brant-Brantford Crime Stoppers will be doubling rewards that lead to seizures and arrests related to the dangerous drug fentanyl. With fentanyl-related overdoses on the rise in our community the time to act is now.
“We are seeing what is happening with this particular drug in our community and it is quite literally a matter of life or death,” said local Crime Stoppers Chair Marc Laferriere. “We’re motivated by the tragic losses of life and quality of life we have seen occurring because of the proliferation of this drug. We’ve also been inspired by the work being done by the local fentanylcankill.ca campaign and want to support that work in getting this drug off the street.”
Community members who have any information about fentanyl-related crimes or the location of fentanyl are encouraged to call 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or 519-750-TIPS (8477) to leave their tips.
Crime Stoppers is a civilian run organization where tipsters who call in always remain anonymous, never testify in court and never speak to the police. Tipsters are eligible for rewards of up to $2000 for information that leads directly to an arrest or seizure of drugs or property.
To learn more about Fentanyl in our community we strongly advise parents, teachers, social workers, drug users and anyone concerned about this issue to consult the http://fentanylcankill.ca/ website.
“It’s great what that Brantford Police Service, the Community Roundtable on Fentanyl and Octopus Red have done to tackle this issue. We understand that in community efforts like this every bit helps. We hope that our offering increased rewards for fentanyl-related tips throughout the entire year will also help to bring awareness to this issue, get the drug off the street and make our community safer for everyone,” said Laferriere.
